Why the Outer Edge is Important

We can never get back this week, this day, this moment. Since this is our ever present reality, we have a choice in responding to it. We can either ignore reality or face it. Ignoring it is simple. We live life thinking that it will carry on as is for ever: We will reach all of our goals; we will fulfill all our dreams. Yet, this ignores reality. To face it means to give our lives at 100%. It means to live life on the outer edge.

Living on the outer edge is not some radical idea, rather it is living a fulfilled life. We live the fulfilled life, when we give our very best effort in all our activities. To the spiritual life, this means that instead of backing away from what makes us uncomfortable, we go forward.

In prayer, we don't simply want to pray, think that we should pray, but we pray. We pray fervently. We pray expectingly. We pray boldly. We pray in a manner that pushes us past our doubts and fears. We pray with power.

  1. obviously i came late to your lenten blog. in reading these posts today i am struck by how much i need to spend some time alone in quiet...to see where that silence may lead me. i chose to give up nothing, but to think of something to add to my life. maybe my quiet time in fervent pray will show me the answer. i am just afraid fervent prayer right now is a lot to ask.
